Who discovered solar energy?

Solar energy is a rapidly growing industry in the United Kingdom, providing clean and renewable energy sources to power homes, businesses, and infrastructure. But who discovered solar energy? This led him to conclude that the sun’s energy was responsible for the increase in the cell’s electrical output.

In the years following Becquerel’s discovery, many other scientists and engineers contributed to the development of photovoltaic technology. One of the most significant breakthroughs came in 1954 when American scientists Daryl Chapin, Calvin Fuller, and Gerald Pearson invented the first practical silicon solar cell. This cell was able to convert sunlight into electricity at an efficiency of around 6%, which was a significant improvement over earlier versions.

Over the following decades, research in solar energy continued to advance, with new materials and technologies being developed to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of solar cells. One of the most significant breakthroughs came in the 1980s when Japanese researchers discovered a new type of solar cell called a thin-film solar cell. This cell was made from a much thinner layer of silicon than traditional cells, which made it cheaper and easier to produce.

Since then, solar energy has continued to grow in popularity and sophistication, with new technologies such as concentrated solar power and solar thermal energy being developed to harness the power of the sun. In the UK, solar energy has become an increasingly important part of the country’s energy mix, with solar panels being installed on homes, offices, and public buildings across the country.

Today, the UK is a world leader in solar energy, with over 13 GW of installed solar capacity as of 2021. This has been made possible by the hard work and dedication of countless scientists, engineers, and researchers who have contributed to the development of solar technology over the years.
